BEL CANTO's DAC3.5 is the source and pre-amp in this incredible system with a choice of active speakers (see Option: pull down menu).

Why Are Actives Best?

Because the drive units have been precisely tailored to perfectly match the internal amplifiers, just as the amplifiers have been to match the drive-units. (compared to a passive speaker which has a general design because it is not amplifier specific & vice versa)

There is an amplifier per drive-unit and an active filter. (compared to a passive filter which is energy inefficient even when speakers are bi-amplified)
 

Because the power amplifiers are built into the speaker enclosures, no extra amplifier, shelving racks nor speaker cable is required. WireWorld Starlight cable is provided as the link between your PC/Mac and Bel Canto. A 2m/pair of Townshend Audio DCT100 balanced cable connects the speakers to the Bel Canto DAC3.5 (a RCA lead is provided for the Dynaudio speakers).

Bel Canto VBS power supply is included.

The best power supply is a battery. Bel Canto have introduced a Virtual Battery Supply (VBS1) for the DAC3.5. It gives all the advantages of a 12 volt lead acid battery, but without the lead, the acid or the battery!  The VBS1 is capable of supplying 12 volts to power the Bel Canto DAC3.5 which is equipped with the new 12V internal power supply board.  "The VBS offers better isolation and tight regulation of the 100 Joules of energy storage available plus high current capacity giving unmatched transparency, dynamics, low level frequency gravitas and greater image palpability."
